CENTRE OF THE CELL LAUNCHES

A permanent new education centre for children has been unveiled at Alsop's Blizard Building, which is part of Queen Mary, University of London. The Centre of the Cell is housed within a monolithic and arresting suspended orange pod in the atrium of the building, and aims to give young people -- via interactive games -- an insight into how the work of the scientists who use the building influences our lives. The interior of the pod in its incarnation as education centre, has been designed by Land Design Studio. Before they gain entrance to the pod, visitors can gaze down at the scientists beavering away below ground in their laboratory, and once inside, an audiovisual display provides an engaging introduction to cells. Then come the interactive games; kids can try virtual experiments and even diagnose disease. An award winning building, playing doctor and a world of virtual games? SOMERSET HOUSE POD

The final touches are being added to our multimedia pod which will spend the summer perched on the River Terrace of Somerset House in London. Alsop were appointed by RIBA London to design the pod in collaboration with the children of Year 6 at Christ Church CE Primary School, Kensington and Chelsea. The pod forms part of the BBC 21CC's Tides and Times exhibition -- a celebration of the river Thames. Click the headline above to see more of the pod. PUDDLE DOCK HOTEL IN FOR PLANNING

Designs for Alsop's Puddle Dock Hotel, located on the north bank of the River Thames, have been submitted to the Corporation of London for planning. The raised main volume, which contains the hotel rooms, restaurants and the terrace on the fifth floor, appears like a homogenous sculpture with a multifaceted skin. Chips Nearly Ready

Chips, our residential building in Manchester is nearing completion. Three fat chips stacked on top of each other, it is a residential development like no other. The building forms the first part of the Alsop-designed New Islington Masterplan, an area east of Manchester city centre. THE PUBLIC OPENS

The latest Alsop building to be completed has opened its doors to the public in an opening weekend which saw over 8000 visitors enjoy a festival of free activities. The Public in West Bromwich is one of Britain's most ambitious cultural building projects -- a space to accommodate art, events, performances, dance and drama. CARNEGIE PAVILION -- FIRST IMAGES

The first images of our new scheme for Carnegie Pavilion in Leeds have been unveiled. The scheme combines new world-class cricket media and hospitality facilities with the functions of a University teaching faculty to provide a unique integrated development. The new 4,000sqm Carnegie Pavilion will replace and upgrade the existing Yorkshire County Cricket Club facilities at Headingley Carnegie Cricket Ground, whilst providing first class teaching space for Leeds Met. During the summer period, the proposal will operate mainly as a cricket pavilion and media centre, whilst during the academic year, the proposed development will operate mainly as a University teaching faculty, allowing students access to 'real world' modern media facilities, sporting, hospitality and event management experiences. 25.04.2008

AWARDS WIN AT CITYSCAPE ASIA 2008

We are delighted to announce that at the 2008 Cityscape Real Estate Awards two of our developments, both owned by CapitaLand, were awarded top prizes. With its ingenious micro climate control features, our colourful Clarke Quay in Singapore's historic river-front, won the award for best built waterfront development. Our design for Raffles City at 1 Dhong Zhimen, Beijing's prestigious business district, achieved the award for the best mixed use future build. 18.04.2008
